Prague

Praha is the capital of the Czech Republic and the important metropolis. It was created on the intersection of commercial roads, which were already crossing each other at the place of Praha’s foundation as early as in the 9th century. An advantageous location of the city in the heart of Europe became the main drive of its development. Praha has already crossed the Czech and European borders by its architectural, historical, cultural and economic significance. Praha is a unique city, which draws attention of visitors and tourists worldwide.

The beginnings of the city’s foundation have been historically connected to the "Pražský hrad" (the Prague Castle). Even though the region had been already populated in the Old Stone Age, it gained its significance actually by building the Přemyslide domicile. Around the year of 880, the prince Bořivoj had founded the Prague Castle, which then served as the headquarters for the Czech princes, kings and heads of the state. Location of the castle above the important roads crossing the Vltava river and the power of the Přemyslide princes had made the Prague Castle the most important place in the entire country.

Thanks to the uniquely preserved historic center of the town, Praha was put on the list of UNESCO monuments of cultural heritage in 1992. This way, the unique historical monuments, architectural treasures, and cultural importance of the town in history and today were appreciated. However, Praha is not only the historic city, it also has an appearance of the modern European metropolis. The most interesting tourist sights, which will be gradually added on and updated, can be viewed over here >>>.

Praha has many faces. It can be cheerful and entertaining, it can be romantic and even nostalgic. Thanks to its beauty and ambiance, it received many attributes as for example the Golden, the Hundred-Spired, the Crown of the World, the Magical Praha, the Stone Dream, the Heart of Europe, the Mother of Cities, and the many others. The attribute of "the Cultural Prague" is a well-deserved one, too. In addition to the rich cultural life of today, Praha can be proud of the fact that a number of artists had worked in Praha or had drawn an inspiration from it. Some of those were L. van Beethoven, Franz Kafka, Jaroslav Hašek – the author of the "Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka" (Fortunes of Švejk the Good Soldier), Egon Erwin Kisch, Jaroslav Seifert, P. I. Čajkovskij, Max Brod, F. M. Dostojevskij, A. Rodin, Jan Neruda, Karel Čapek, G. Apollinaire, or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who presented here in 1787 his premiere of the famous opera called Don Giovani. This is only a small list of the prominent persons who had very close relations with Praha. You will find museums here, galleries, concert halls and theaters.

Praha is also the city of entertainment. Thousands of events are being held here throughout the year. There are excellent restaurants here, the discotheques, bars, clubs, wine taverns, coffeehouses, dance halls for ballroom dancing, and other establishments and opportunities for entertainment. You can go shopping here in the thousands of shops, stores and shopping malls. Basic food and daily necessities are for the affordable price here. You can find a rich network of the European-standard refreshments here. Praha is opened to students as well. Praha offers affordable accommodation in hostels and private rooms, and many establishments accept the international student discount cards and the international student identification cards.

Praha is easily accessible by transportation means. The Czech Republic is gradually integrating itself into the European freeway network, whereas Praha is a center point of the Czech freeways. Air transportation is becoming more important than ever. The Praha – Ruzyně International Airport is also becoming more and more important. You can also visit Praha by bus or by train. The Main Wilson Train Station is an arrival point of the international train connections from the entire Europe and it is located in Downtown Praha just a few minutes from the Wenceslas Square. A thick network of public city transit is functional here and the Metro (Subway, Underground) is its backbone. The three main Metro routes are connected to the thick network of trams and buses.

Prague Tower at Petrin
My favorite place in Prague is Petrin Observation Tower (a smaller version of Paris’s Eiffel) . It is 60m tall, which doesn’t seem to be that high, but it is located on the hill itself. There is a funicular service, which I really enjoyed too, from Ujezd street in Mala Strana which takes passengers up to the summit of the Petrin hill and the Observation Tower.Prague is good place for tourism actually. I didn’t spent that much money and managed to have a really good hotel in the city center. hotels in Prague are generally very good and many have good location as well. Prague is the place to be!
